It's Labor Day...
So, in honor of the day, here's a post dealing with the hard labor that comes with independent-filmmaking-territory.
Like other indie filmmakers, we're always on the look-out for ways keep costs down.
On our last film, Dear J, there were some things we had to do to make a few locations work. Like the unfinished window frame in our courtroom location. Three (or was it four?) coats of stain were needed since it would be in some key shots.
For this next film, Under Jakob's Ladder, we're already starting with carpets.
Moving furiture... clearing out rooms... and ripping up lots of old carpets and linoleum. Not the easiest thing to do when your back aches already! (Not to mention the dust.)
But, as Winston Churchill once said: "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat."
And that pretty much sums it up. We want to use the space for one of our locations when we film; so we put in the work to make that happen.
(You know what? If we were union, we'd probably be making quite a bit of money to do this!)
