What We're Reading Now

Karl Iglesia's screenwriting book: Writing for Emotional Impact.

It's not really a how-to book for beginner screenwriters (hence the subtitle: "Advanced dramatic techniques to attract, engage, and fascinate the reader from beginning to end").

Rather it's about tweaking your scenes and characters to make your screenplay better... all with an eye towards emotion and creating round (as opposed to flat) characters. He gives lots of examples from a whole slew of movies--past and present.

Is the book worth it?

Well, sometimes we're not sure if this book is a blessing... or a curse. It's made us rework (and rework) quite a few scenes in our current screenplay!

That's good, right? We should be getting a better script for it.
