What to Wear to the Audition?

This is a question that we get asked every so often.

First off, you don't need to come in costume. Although, you may wish to wear something that hints at what the role is all about. For example, right now we're auditioning for a movie--Under Jakob's Ladder--that is set in the Soviet Union in 1941.

Some actors, who have already auditioned for us (and who obviously did their homework before the audition), chose to wear something that hinted of this time period. For the guys that would be a certain style of shirt. For the ladies, it was a head scarf.

But, please, don't go out and rent a costume for the audition! This is an unnecessary expense on your part.

So, unless the casting director or casting notice says otherwise, try to choose solid, neutral colors. And dress so that you feel comfortable; yet look like you're professional.

By the way, what to wear if you get asked to come in for a callback? Try wearing the same thing you wore to the original audition. Believe us when we say that it really does help us remember who you are!
